  • This documentary is bullshit, the monarchy didn't regain popularity because of its loss of power, quite the opposite, people were discontent with Victoria's retreat from public life, and republican sentiment grew. If the monarchy was to survive, she eventually had to return to her public duties, and that gave the monarchy inmense popularity and admiration, and it's then that Victoria became the symbol of the Empire.

  • @LaSerpentaCanta I'm sorry to have wasted your time.

  • Some good interviews, but ruined by silly editing, fictional scenes and appallingly bad music. Twenty year old Albert played by a guy that looks about 45? And is it the same baby every time? I'm curious to know, but that would mean I'd have to watch it again...

  • @gtimny Silly editing? Where is that occurring? [On my part or the documentary makers part?]

  • A man who believed in virtues and non aggression. He himself a fan of King Arthurian values such as "the duty of the strong is to protect the weak" is nothing less than admirable.

He reminds me of immigrants who try to make their host country proud but is always attacked by "cheap shot" prejudice attacks.

I say judge not Prince Albert for who he is but for what he accomplished

  • @cttn101: Actually, the British Empire reached its heights in the nineteenth century, long after the American colonies had left the fold. Anyway, as an an Englishman, I think the Americans had a point. Why should they pay taxes, if they weren't entitled to representation? Seems fair enough to me.

  • @LyricalXilence: No, Gavrillo Princip 'started' WWI, but the German leadership fanned the flames bigstyle by saying to the Austrians, we will back you no matter how harshly you choose to deal with Serbia......but that was then and this is now. And I don't think anybody in the summer of 1914, not the Germans or anybody else, had any inkling what a general war in Europe would be like. If they had, I think they would have found a way to avoid it.

  • @cttn101 It is a handfull of ungrateful men.....not the people as a whole.....we the people of the United States are MOST grateful, and love dearly not only Prince Albert, but the entire Royal Family. We, the United States, just as the British Empire has also experienced in past generations, cannot be judged by the corrupt men who lead us. Some good, some bad through the many generations.

  • how ungrateful is the United States... Britian is their mother, and they betrayed her! high treason! how dare they, The United States forced the decline of the British Empire! Australia would never have done something so atrocious.

  • To all those who were rather disparaging about the documentary, with your terms of 'bullshit' & 'crap' etc, give us the real version then! Since you all seem to be experts in the field!

  • Well gee whiz! You think there were movie cameras back in 1860? Golly gee Batman! Look at the credits, it's got someone playing the role. 'Nuff said.

  • What a nasty documentary on Albert! He was ten times the man any of these silly commentators in the documentary are.

  • i never knew this about Prince Albert. very interesting.

  • revisionist history?

  • This documentary is crap! Germany did not start WWI and Albert was not some tyrant!
