How come it's impossile for most (if not all) people commenting on this video clip to simply act, by getting you facts straight from BOTH sides before flapping their jaws? Most of you simply react like animals to what you see in front of you! Where's that evolution that taught us to evaluate a situation? Go an read an article about the incident and get a bit more information instead ejaculating what is only foul smelling content like that which is found on the Common.

The first scene looked like a wild riot - good thing the police arrested them. Who would want 10000 of those types living there anyway.
-
Dan and Lilli!!!!! Oh my GOD!
-
Check out Roboboer, I want an outfit like that
-
It's almost as if they wanted to be arrested..! I guess they making some kind of point. It's just a pity I fail to see it...

@moerboer1 That's quite a bit of race baiting as well as a gross over generalisation. But then again since when did that stop anyone from staying dumb things.
-
@Bobby8664 That is true to an extent. The Western Cape as the best educated population with the lowest unemployment rate in the country and one of the country's highest per-capita incomes. It also has South Africa's highest Human Development Index. It's GENI coefficient is one of the lowest in the country at 0.63 in 2000 making it one of the most equal provinces in the country. Having said that a GENI coefficient of 0.63 is still unacceptably high and some thing needs to be done about that.
-
@videopixels I don't know if race baiting is going to make the situation better for anyone.

On one hand the protest was not cleared and the organisers failed to show up to a meeting with the city to get approval for the protest: so it was illegal. On the other hand the city has an obligation to make it as easy as possible for them to get permission and make to meet with the organisers.
On one hand the city can't allow squatting/camping on the common, it is against regulations that they must enforce. On the other hand the protesters have very legitimate reasons to protest.

BEE, BBEE, Affirmative Action, Employment Equity = Apartheid. DO YOU THINK YOU WERE THE FIRST PEOPLE HERE! You KILLED the first people. So you are saying you kill people and take their land and then it is yours - very smart.
-
Breaking the LAW can do that! If they had left in the first place knowing they had not followed the right channels this would not have happened.
-
Eloquent

Cape Town probably has the best record of housing provision, education, job creation etc.. of any of the South African provinces. The only way the ANC can get power back from the DA, who are managing the province, is by undermining the authorities there and create friction. That is what they are doing, as they have said before. They will try to make the province ungovernable.

fuck the whites they are fucking asswhipes they are all racist and yet claim they were not fuck them they steal the land and claim it is theirs fuck them they act innocent fuck them if it were not for them south africa would be free fuck them. if the whites did not do this nothing like this would happen fuck them malema is correct malema malema fuck the whites fuck them if you disagree then fuck you give me facts that this is fucking whities land fuck the moer the boer

So they're great people because they partake in illegal marches now?
-
The police were doing a good job. Half these people had lit cigarettes and were drunk and incoherent. It is mid-summer, hot and dry there and the whole field of dry grass could have easily gone up on flames. It is good that the police wet the grass as a precaution and arrested these potential arsonists. Good job police. It is a pity your time was wasted stopping land-invasions. Thumbs up to the police for controlling this potential disaster.
-
Land Invasions in South Africa. Next is any open piece of ground filled with incoherent mania. This is not Occupy, this is land-invasions.
-
What Cowards
-
This kind of things are happening all over the world

riffraff

@Barrybru1980 even if what you say is true, it still does not mean these lunatic cops have the right to be so dammned brutal about it.
-
The person who ordered the police to do this really screwed up. I may not agree with the cause but these actions on the police's part really don't help people support them. Honestly, the police should let the march go on so the protesters can screw themselves over. All they are doing here is handing the Occupation the moral high ground.
-
@gboyflip Because many of the organisers like Tony et al are ANC agitators driving their own political/personal agenda.
-
@erry117 The common was chosen because it would draw attention to the cause being close to "leafy" suburbs. Saying the common should be redeveloped shows a lack of historic knowledge. Do you know the Common was Glebe land that belonged to St Paul's Church given to them in 1854 and that over a period of about 100 years portions were given off and the remaining piece which you see today was declared a National Monument for the benefit of all.
2 things - Firstly, Rondebosch Common, the piece of land referred to as "unused" is far from that. It is an important natural heritage site which has been set aside for conservation and recreation purposes. Thousands of people use this land. Secondly, the "summit" and associated protest march was not approved and therefore illegal. This entire episode was simply a act of provocation on the part of the "summit" organisers. A massive fail.

@Barrybru1980
That guy who had his arm bent behind his back after being tackled by 4 policeman?
That's one of the greatest people I know, Dan.
That girl who's shreaking you can hear because she's been shoved to the ground?
That's another amazing person, Lilly.
Real citizens with real concerns and truly altruistic motives that are being met with violence when they speak peace.
Those who make peaceful change impossible make violent change inevitable.
Stop being an apologist for police brutality.
