@JaeRedMarketing Correction: 6th fastest run in a decidedly non-deep field (only top 8 or so in the event were real pro's -- this was Panama in the middle of winter). Lance was 5 minutes slower than Docherty on the run, which translates to 12+ minutes in a marathon. I gather Lance was most disappointed in his bike leg where he was working to prove his coaches wrong; that his strong biking COULD carry over to triathlon TT. As he confirmed to himself, different ball of wax: THIRD fastest bike leg.
@nightowl8936 I think he is well on the way to doing that with his 2nd place finish in a 70.3. I don't think a pro triathlete would stand a chance in the TDF. I mean look at some of the most grueling mountain stages at the Tour- over a hundred miles and hundreds of meters of climbs over several passes. Compare that to many of the bike courses in triathlon which are mainly rolling hills.
@nightowl8936 I'd disagree that Lance is greater than Scott. You can't really compare the two. Scott was a pioneer in triathlon. I do feel like being a professional cyclist is much more demanding and competitive than being a professional triathlete.
@innismor11 Lance just finished 2nd in his first 70.3. He blew away the field on the run, not the bike. That sort of blows a hole in your analysis, doesn't it? You forget that Allen and Pigg were much older than Lance who was a teenager at the time. That's not really comparable.
To all those that think Lance could win the Ironman: Wake up. He is nearly 40 years old. He's a great athlete, but in Kona he's nothing more than an age grouper.
@khstemp Nah man your completely wrong there, both 20k-180k are aerobic fat/glycogen energy systems, and he wouldnt crush any of the top guys even if he focused full time, he would do extremely well, but he would struggle to even at his best to close out the race
pro triathletes train for years to accomplish what they do. if Lance did the same (in all three sports) he would crush them (he was doing that a young kid...albeit short course). he hasn't logged nearly the swimming and running these guys have so there is no real way to compare. you also can't compare a 112 mile tt (which it is not) to a 20 to 40K tt. two completely different energy zones.

@ltcav1 Did you see how Lance did in his first half ironman? I'd say he has a very good chance in Kona against the best.

Interesting, Lance just finished second in his first half ironman, narrowly missing 1st place by 55 seconds. I'd say he can do pretty good in Kona.

@Blaatdieblaat
Lance barely trained for that marathon. He said himself he never even did any long runs over 10 miles. Your a douche.
