I have received many emails about this and I wanted to clarify why this is a dumb question. I actually agree with the point Stossel is TRYING to make, but I feel this brief explanation may help explain why I think this is a dumb question.
This lady was upset about some people who DRESSED UP as nurses and she was concerned they would do un-nurse-like things and "give nurses a bad name." (These were the waitresses at the Heart Attack Grill.)
Now, again, I agree with Stossel - the woman's position is dumb. People know these are waitresses, and not nurses, and she's being foolish to think otherwise.
However, the question is dumb because he said "Dr. Pepper." That is not an equivalent compairson as there is no "person" equivalent of Dr. Pepper -- Dr. Pepper is not some sinister Doctor character, nobody dresses up as "Dr Pepper" and does un-doctor-like things. There is no restaurant where people dress up like slutty doctors.... In other words, there is no equivalent (perceived) possibility that Doctors will get a "bad name" because of Dr. Pepper.
Now, had John Stossel said "Dr. Evil" instead, the question would, indeed, have been a good question. That would have been a valid comparison, because Dr. Evil is a character and people should be able to tell the difference between a character and a real doctor.
But in its current form, the question makes no sense. Stossel WANTS to ask, "Shouldn't people be able to tell the difference between a real doctor, and a character pretending to be a doctor?" Valid point. But what Stossel has ACTUALLY asked is, "Shouldn't people be able to tell the difference between a real doctor, and THE NAME OF A SODA?" It's a dumb question.
Oh, and the reason I disabled comments is because my wife and son use my account to post videos, and I actually received death threats and hateful comments for this video.... and I didn't want to expose my family to that. If people could learn to act like civilized human beings I would leave comments enabled.
