Excellent idea and the best I've heard yet. Good luck getting all the crooked politicians to go along with it.

The list of nations that have a flat tax...the high growth rates in those countries does not reflect the tax system, it reflects the increase in inputs=outputs, the same way the Soviet growth in the 60s did not reflect the superiority of communism. Developing nations develop fast. Simple as that.

What a croc. Both of these proposals would lead to that glorious day all conservatives dream of... the establishment of a plutocratic aristocracy to rule us all.

Please if you are going to make extraordinary claims like that, at least back it up with extraordinary evidence. Here you have been presented with a well thought out and supported argument. Your best response is what? "The conservatives are out to get you all" which is nothing more than a conspiracy theory. If your going to open your mouth make sure there is something behind it other than Ad Hominem and Ad Baculum.

Well, if I must, I must. Here's my point, bear with me. In terms of the flat tax, the proposal generally means the abolition of all taxes accept a flat rate on the income tax. Obviously, the rich would benefit more from the repeal of the progressive system, and the tax burden would shift more to the middle class and poor. Also, without payroll and other taxes, the government would have to cut social security and medicare, which also benefit the middle class, not the rich.

I want one flat tax. This tax should not be unequal from individual to individual. Divide the national budget by the number of people 18 and over and send them a bill. Rich people will love it and the masses will clamour for further reductions in spending to lower their amounts to reasonable levels. This is the only moral way to proceed.

The 16th Amendment will have to be repealed before any such substitute can be put in place. This must occur!

packers56789, the top rate is not 35%, obviously you have not seen the realities of our draconian taxes placed on people who have made something of their lives, my dad pays over 50% of income in taxes, how is that in any way fair? he pays more than he is allowed to keep!
