An archival sales film used to sell memberships at the North Shore Beach Yacht Club, on California's Salton Sea. This is a historical gem, as you really get a sense of the times. It features dancing in the "Commodore Room," a landing strip, and the catamaran "Aloha." THIS IS ONLY AN EXCERPT. The full length film is available on the PAST PLEASURES AT THE SALTON SEA, a DVD from Tilapia Film. Go to www.saltonseadocumentary.com for more information.
My fami;y was a member of this place in the mid 60's. We cought so many corvina off the jetty. Once out on the sea a jet fighter came so close it kicked up a spray. One night I saw a meteor shower and had the strongerst phoressence in the water I have ever seen anywhere. You could see every fish. The Commadore room had a TV and was air conditioned. We spent a lot of time in the pool fighting horse flies. My dad loved the place, but the heat, horse flies and smell drove me away.

@Newtwist75 Me too. They've installed modern lighting, drop ceilings, and electrical service, but have otherwise keep the same look and feel as it apparently looked back in the day.

@slworking2 I am amazed about how faithful they were to the original design. I bet you can actually smell 1960 in the place if it looks that much like it did in the day.

@Newtwist75 Indeed. I was at the grand re-opening ceremony. Several of the original club members were actually in attendance, too.

@slworking2 I just saw the exterior the other day and I gotta say 1960 owners of the club would be proud. Its very colorful from Highway 111.

it's amazing that it looked like that, it seems like such a tiny structure to house all that. i'm glad it's being restored, but the salton sea's still not what it once was... it's far from the most pleasant-smelling place that i've ever been...

I have tons of photos of this place - both in decay and now in the middle of restoration. Since I can't post URLs here, please Google "slworking north shore yacht club" to see my pics of the building.
