Made in Germany | Pre-Christmas Consumer Boom?

Toy and jewellery stores make a third of their profit in November and December, bookshops, electronic goods chains and chain stores about a quarter. On average, Germans spend more than 400 euros on Christmas.

This year, cookware manufacturers hope to benefit from the Christmas trade, because of increased interest in cooking in Germany. But although WMF, one of the country's major producers, is working flat out, most of their goods go abroad, with pressure-cookers especially popular in Spain. Back home, WMF is doing its best to encourage customers to buy its gourmet series with cookery demonstrations.
