A cool-headed pilot maneuvered his crippled jetliner over New York City and ditched it in the frigid Hudson River on Thursday, and all 155 on board were pulled to safety as the plane slowly sank. It was, the governor said, "a miracle on the Hudson."

One victim suffered two broken legs, a paramedic said, but there were no other reports of serious injuries.

US Airways Flight 1549, an Airbus A320 bound for Charlotte, N.C., struck a flock of birds just after takeoff minutes earlier at LaGuardia Airport, apparently disabling the engines.

  • can't hey put a netting or cone mesh to deflect the birds? something that doesn't impede the air flow but is also strong enough to get thous fuckers out of the way?

  • @TKaussie, okay I see your point, but there is also a breach at the back of the plane that let in more water, that what NTSB said also.

  • @Summonearth Watch the video 'Flight 1549 Crew on the Late show with David letterman Part 3', the flight attendant says so herself!

  • @TKaussie, no there was a breach at the back of the plane and water flow into the plane.

  • @EdColonThecomedian they have worked on that... it would constrict air flow and would allow ice to form in cold conditions.

  • somebody did open the rear door..a passenger that panicked did...hence why the cabin filled with water so quickly

  • As long as birds exist, the possibility of this happening again remains. What a great pilot!!

  • GE owns nbc LMAO!!!

  • hopefully all the airline take note of this incident to avoid it happen... Anyway good job to the pilot
