yea i agree. the 4 big bands of metal guitarists are shit compared to Satriani, Petrucci, Tremonti, MAB, Vai, Stevie Ray, Troy Stetina, Rusty Cooley. Speed doesnt make a guitarist good, Tremonti has speed, melody, his writing skills are superb and his technique is flawless. i srsly hate ppl that praise only the really known guitarists, eg. hammett, friedman. Listeners develop to hear something that is better, if they give it a chance. sure the legends had their time, but there are better players

Rusty Cooley has a Vibrato that sounds like a cat being raped and I mean seriously, there is zero point in being able to play that fast when it sounds like such a complete mess. I'm not dissing people who play fast, what i'm saying is, play fast but make it musical. The person who best does that is Jason Becker in my opinion.

It is not a distinct thing at all, many guitarists have subtle differences in their alternate picking too....it is just like every other technique.

Calling Rusty Cooley an average guitarist is extremely silly no matter how you look at it. For a start listen to his actual cd's rather than technique demonstrations on youtube. There is some great stuff, but even if it were terrible to call him an 'average guitarist' would still be really stupid. What do you think of the violinists who play in the
