"A mighty fortress is our God" -
September 23 2007 concert performance by Bradley Lehman, organ.
The organ is Taylor & Boody Opus 41, Goshen College, Goshen Indiana USA.
This performance uses a special effect: the stops of Manual II are pulled out only part of the way, deliberately, so they get insufficient wind pressure and sound out of tune.
A recording of this composition is also available, made on a different organ that did not allow the "half-wind" effect. That CD is "In Thee is Gladness", LaripS 1001. Details are at

Look, I really don't wish to offend anyone - the Organist included - but this is just the most awful sounding piece of music I've had the misfortune to come across ever. It sounds like a cross between cheap carnival music and a simian jumping all over the keyboards. AHHHHHH!!

@ccoraxfan Pls, listen to Widor's organ Symphony #5, there you can heare what an organ can do.

Martin Luther wrote in German. The words to this well-known hymn were translated into English, then adapted to make them rhyme. The words here must be a direct translation from the German. It's easy to see they mean essentially the same thing, yet are very different.

That was the most unusual, creative and interesting rendition of A Mighty Fortress that I've ever heard! I didn't know you could make an organ do that! Thank you!
(Obviously you could only do this effect on an organ with mechanical stop action. Mark up another advantage to that part of traditional organ construction!)
