Dog fighting is a cruel practice and those who are caught in the act should be prosecuted because these animals are trained to fight other dogs for the sake of human profit. To keep the dogs aggressive, they are beaten, fed gunpowder, illegal drugs and live animals. Sometimes they are not fed at all for long periods of time. Dogs that do not win are either killed or left to die painful deaths. Every puppy is born loving, trusting, and wanting to please its owner. The people that fight them take advantage of this desire by praising the dog when it shows aggressive behavior. These animals deserve a better life, they are so innocent. They do nothing to deserve such a terrible fate.

A History of Dog Fighting:
Dog fighting is a sport that can be traced to ancient civilizations. When the Romans invaded Britain in 43 A.D., both sides brought fighting dogs to the battlefield for the seven years of warfare. (Villavicencio, 2007)

What is dog fighting: Dog fighting is a blood sport where two dogs are put into a pit to fight each other for peoples entertainment and gambling. Fights can last for more than two hours and do not end until one of the dogs cant continue. This many times ends in death of one or both of the dogs. They also get serious injuries and are many times beaten and neglected if they lose.
Why its wrong: Why dog fighting is wrong is obvious, they suffer severely, they are abused, praised for violent behavior, sometimes young children are at dog fights, which teaches them insensitivity to animal abuse, there are more than just dogs that are victims to fighting, Some owners train their dogs for fights using smaller animals such as cats, rabbits or small dogs, and there are many other reasons why it is wrong.

What you can do to stop it: If you suspect dog fighting somewhere, contact the authorities immediately, you can also write letters to the media about it, put up posters and many other things can be done.

What breeds are typically the victims of dog fighting: Usually, American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, and Staffordshire Bull Terriers, which are all considered pit bulls, are the victims of dog fighting but can also include mastiffs, Cane Corso, and many other breeds.

Dog Fighting is a cruel and illegal practice and should be stopped altogether; the efforts of the law enforcement have had good success rates at stopping dog fighting. However, society is just beginning to confront it. Despite reports of dog fighting raids and prosecutions, many dog fights happen every night and go unreported and unprosecuted. The law enforcement and people in the communities can prevent another generation from being drawn into the violent world of dog fighting if they just report and investigate these fights.
