BLOG SCRIPT: JULY 2011
Hi! July has certainly been hot, but we're also off to a hot start in this new fiscal and academic year, with a lot of exciting news to share.

I'd like to start with a recognition we all share: The latest rankings from U.S. News and World Report. This year, Ohio State has 11 ranked specialties, out of 16 ranked by U.S. News. Seven of our specialties were ranked among the top 25 nationally. These include Cancer, Cardiology and Heart Surgery, Diabetes and Endocrinology, Ear Nose and Throat, Gynecology and Women's Health, Pulmonology, and Rehabilitation. This is the 19th year in a row that Ohio State has been named one of America's Best Hospitals, and we're once again the only nationally ranked hospital in central Ohio. We owe our success to your pursuit of excellence in research, education and patient care, your focus on quality, safety and compassion, and your dedication to our mission to improve people's lives. Thank you for all your hard work.

We also have a few people who were recognized for individual excellence. Dr. Ali Rezai was named the Innovator honoree for Business First's 2011 Health Care Heroes awards, for his work as director of Ohio State's Center for Neuromodulation. Dr. Kwame Osei, director of Ohio State's Diabetes Research Center, received honorable mention in this category. And Almeta Cooper, our associate general counsel, was named the Mentor honoree for Business First's 2011 Top Corporate Counsel award. We continue to build an excellent team at the Medical Center, and it's so gratifying to see our colleagues recognized for individual achievement. Congratulations to all.

Congratulations are also in order for more than 70 of your co-workers who have agreed to become IHIS certified trainers. They complete their training this week, and in late August will begin instructing 14,000 of us on how to use the system. Completing this training is a remarkable achievement in its own right, and we thank those of you who have stepped away from your normal jobs to help carry us through this transition.

Finally, as you can see, I'm wearing a Pelotonia tie. If you've signed up to ride or volunteer, thanks so much. If not, please join me and Pat as together we ride to cure cancer.

In all that you do, you hold yourself, your teams, and our Medical Center to a higher standard. You've helped us create a workplace of choice that's consistently recognized for excellence, and I'm so honored to be here with you.
