My older brother Terry (APE) introduced me to Bruce in my freshman year of HS in 1979. We used to cruise in his 72' cherry red notch back Chevy Vega modified with an aluminum block Buick 300 V-8. He introduced me to life and was only 1.5 years older than me. He died at 39 in Nov. 2001. I now 47, listen to Bruce and dream of those days with my hero, my older brother. RIP Terry..I miss you.

@dprague Hey man you should hear bruce springsteens song called: Terry's Song.
It's about Bruce's personal assistent who passed away, (also named terry)
I'm pretty sure you heard it already but if you didn't you should,
It's heartbreaking, especially in your case i imagine.
May your brother rest in peace!

I just watched a recent version of this by Bruce Springsteen and hardly recognized it - it was a reinterpretation trying to sound up to date, but ending up sounding totally unfamiliar. I wanted to hear the original version to see if it was as good as I remember it -- it turns out is was/is. Reminds me of what Sick Boy said in Trainspotting "Well, at one time, you've got it, and then you lose it, and it's gone forever." Thanks for posting the original.

@pyromaniarules He felt bad that he made his stage name "Cougar" to make it more appealing. Then he said "ok, I will compromise and put both names" and then when his popularity tanked, as so many artist do after awhile he said "fuck it, I will just use my family name and live off the fucking risiduals". That's about it in a nutshell...

@PlanTonto yeah i never understood why he went from john cougar to john cougar mellencamp then john mellencamp?

The song conjures up the the racing in the dark in The Rebel without a cause, with James Dean. I borrowed the Darkness on The Edge of Town from a friend, when I was at Uni. I was blown away by the great lyrics, the man's a Poet, who paints pictures with words as vivid as Van Gogh.

@zachmasterzach Well, yes, Born in the USA achieved great commercial success, but look, so has Lady Gaga, and that scares me. I just felt Bruce sort of sold out and that album was his turning point. Sort of reminds me of John Cougar going to John Cougar Mellencamp and then John Mellencamp...
One of the best songs of the album.Thankyou.
