The historic C.R. Daniels company's dam. Before demolition. In Ellicott City, also know as Elysville, and Alberton MD 21043 video of Daniels Dam before it's gone. This dam furnished 400 horsepower for canvas and denim mills and also generated surplus electricity for Baltimore Gas and Electric. The town started in the 1840's as Elysville. The mill changed owners a number of times and in the mid to late 1800's the mill also produced canvas tents for the Union Army! The current name Daniels came from the C.R. Daniels Company who took ownership of the Mill in the 50's. The mill closed in the late 60's and Tropical Storm Agnes destroyed the town and the mill in 1972. Then fire destroyed what was left of the buildings again! Yet the people of Daniels still keep the bonds of community strong through annual reunions and the maintenance of a community brass brand that performs on a regular basis.
