Well, if we really want to get into it, the enormous success of bands like The Beatles paved the way for corporate marketing focuses on trends and then bleeding them dry. They want people to faint at shows like girls did during the Ed Sullivan show. The problem with this line of thinking is that these bands are born, not made. The mainstream itself is currently poisoned because of the corporate control, rather than letting great bands emerge simply from their own inspiration.

Exactly right.Agreed. What I meant is, where's the beatles of today?! . Unfortunately, now, the majority of the industry is far too concerned with who looks good on a magazine cover than anything else. Pretty faces, or masks on sale! Not about the music at all. . So when I say this is perfect, and hilarious, it's another way of saying the joke is on them. Many, many people are missing out on LOTS of good music, and rely too often on their TV's or their radios, to tell them where to look.Shame.

Uh, I don't think that music being mainstream is the reason for the badness. It's that mainstream music is bad BECAUSE it's bad, and not because it's mainstream. I doubt that Eman would have protested outside a Beatles concert, for example.

I love your "bad taste in music" series.Brilliant! ..and I hope most kids of today, reconsider what they are listening to. But what if, very good unknowns were mainstream ? would that make them less special to you? What if every 13 year old, emo kid, was listening to sleepy time gorilla museum, beardfish, or kevin gilbert? With that said, I think it's perfect , and hilarious that mainstream, 3 chord, 4/4 bands are at the top It's a thick layer of dust to keep the gold and treasurers hidden.

He's 100% right of course. Bad music awareness is severely lacking in today's youth cultures. Bad music is diverse, but structurally and thematically similar: radio friendly, love, sex, angst. Good music, on the other hand, is limitless in possibility and potential, and those working to expand music as art should be our focus.
