"12 Fuges for String Quartet" (1821) were performed as part of the concert "Mendelssohn: Lost Treasures and the Wagner Suppression," presented at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York City on January 28, 2009. The program featured 13 world premieres discovered by The Mendelssohn Project, whose artistic director is Stephen Somary. "12 Fuges for String Quartet" were performed by the Shanghai Quartet: Weigang Li (violin), Yi-Wen Jiang (violin), Honggang Li (viola), and Nicholas Tzavaras (cello). Stephen Vann was the artistic producer.
Oh yay! I read about these works my local newspaper. It only just occurred to me to see if the performance was on Youtube... anyway...wonderful! Just wonderful. I wish I didn't live so far away. What a spectacular thing to get to see live!
