Before there was a Rush Limbaugh, there was George Putnam. Mr. Putnam laid the ground work for the new forum known as talk radio. And he did it with dignity and verve that few, if any, can claim today. I was incredibly lucky to sit in on his shows at the Arco Towers and saw a parade of guests including Lucille Ball. Indeed no one could wax Hollywood better than George. While I didnt always agree with him politically, he was fair to all and was first class all the way. God speed, George.

Thanks for posting. George Putnam was a master behind the mic. Besides that booming captivating voice, the content of his message put him in a league of his own. There will never be another George. His love for our great nation knew no bounds. Rest in peace my friend.

He was a big guy, straight and tall, even into his late 80's. I had a chance to meet him when I was hired to produce some radio at KIEV in Glendale. He had that booming voice, and he looked like a linebacker. He was still driving and he tooled around in a Rolls Royce, Silver Cloud if memory serves.
