Glock gets all-clear after hospital checks
Sunday, 20 July 2008 17:11
Toyota has confirmed that Timo Glock suffered no injuries from his violent crash in the German Grand Prix, but will remain in hospital overnight as a precaution.
The German driver was running strongly in his home grand prix when his TF108's right-rear suspension appeared to brake coming out of Hockenheim's final corner, pitching his car backwards into a heavy impact with the concrete pit wall.
After checks at the circuit's medical centre, Glock was taken to a local hospital for further precautionary checks which team boss Tadashi Yamashina confirmed showed he had suffered no damage. "Timo is fine, thankfully, and that is the most important thing," Yamashina said.
"Obviously it was a heavy impact and he did not get out of the car immediately, so he was taken to the circuit medical centre, as is the normal procedure in these incidents.
"There was no sign of any injury but he was taken from there to a hospital for further precautionary checks, including X-rays.
"He has now completed these tests and they have confirmed he is fine. He has no concussion."
Glock will now be kept in hospital overnight as a precaution.
Yamashina added that the team expected Glock to be fit to compete in the Hungarian GP in a fortnight's time.
"We are extremely confident Timo will be fit for the Hungarian Grand Prix," he said.
"Naturally he is a bit shaken by the accident but all the checks have shown he is fine so we are not worried about that.
As for the cause of the violent accident itself, Yamashina added that the team was still looking into it.
"At this stage we are still analysing what the cause of the accident was because the car was heavily damaged in the impact," he said.
"We will have to study the telemetry and look at video evidence."
