The Caterpillar Pavilion

The Caterpillar Pavilion - Runner up to the 2007-2008 AA Pavilion Competition.

Design team: Ville(boss), Anna, Dori, Steph, Mits, Kien.

A huge angry mass of deadly spikes, the pavilion would instantly create a strong emotional reaction of viewers: awe, affraid, curiousity..but as they approach it they would realise that it is just a big fluffy creature sleeping with its (rubber) hair swaying in the wind; and they would find, underneath the pavilion, that it is not dense and complicated, but a very articulate space with sunlight and openings to the sky through the spikes. Viewers would feel like they are being protected by the creature, and after the first impression of a scary thing, this realisation would probably make them happier and feel more relaxed. And when night falls, the caterpillar would be awaken, and the LED underneath the spikes would light up, enhancing the visual effect of the spikes even more. It is alive!
But it will never be seen, and remains as a myth in the architecture world..until one day, maybe
