Part 2 of 12.

From Book TV:

About the Program
From the City University of New York, authors George Galloway and Christopher Hitchens debate the war in Iraq. George Galloway, opposed to the Iraq War, is a member of the British Parliment and the author of "Mr. Galloway Goes to Washington: The Brit Who Set Congress Straight About Iraq." The book tells the story of his recent appearance before the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, where he verbally attacked U.S. Senators while responding to charges related to Iraq's oil-for-food program. Christopher Hitchens, in favor of the Iraq War, is the author of "Love, Poverty, and War: Journeys and Essays" and "Blood, Class and Empire: The Enduring Anglo-American Relationship." "Democracy Now!" radio host Amy Goodman moderates. She is the author of "The Exception to the Rulers: Exposing Oily Politicians, War Profiteers, and the Media That Love Them."

About the Author
George Galloway is the Respect Party's Member of Parliament for Bethnal Green and Bow in London. He won the seat after his expulsion from the Labour Party for his opposition to the Iraq War. Christopher Hitchens is a contributing editor to Vanity Fair and a visiting professor of liberal studies at the New School in New York.

  • Did Galloway defend or even address Hitchen's point that GG stood with Assad in Syria - praising the insurgents who are blowing up our soldiers and their fellow Muslims?

Is there anyone out there who can explain or justify this? The only logical explanation is that George is kissing anti-American/muslim ass.

I understand and respect critisism of the war, but to defend that snake - Galloway, is entirely different. He deserves no respect.

  • Hitchens presents facts and historical evidence, Galloway is a demagogue who goes for cheap personal insults.

    The end.

  • Hitchens comes off as the better man and the better speaker with the better argument in front of a tough crowd, it would have been interesting to see the audience polled after this.

Having said that Hitch makes a Freudian slip (?) at 6.54....

  • @dobyboby erm, the only one throwing away cheap insults in this debate is hitchens...

  • @echoplex89 he was a trot

  • Hitchen's favourite technique; Emotional blackmail.

  • Very foreshadowing what Hitchens says of Egypt...over half a decade ago.

  • @rebelmusicfan

hitch actually was a marxist activist while studying at Cambridge. He organized in support of MLK,

  • "The beginning of the end... the fall of the wall."

And now, with the Arab Spring, we see how right they were.

  • @Seigu007

Haha ... "Galloway destroys hitchens." ?? You're either a Muslim, an idiot, or both.

  • @dobyboby Your hero got his ass handed to him with pure logic. The audience members agree with Galloway and common sense, unlike your feeble minded guest.

  • @klrdotorg Galloway destroys hitchens. What are you babbling about, loser?
