LYRICS:

The air is clear the day is fine, and swiftly swiftly flows the time
The boat is floating on the tide that wafts me off from Fiunary

Chorus:
We must up and haste away, we must up and haste away
We must up and haste away, farewell, farewell tae Fiunary

A thousand, thousand tender ties awake this day my plaintive sighs
My heart within me almost dies, at thocht of leaving Fiunary

Chorus

But I must leave those happy vales,
see how they fill, the spreading sails
Adieu, adieu, my native dales,
farewell, farewell tae Fiunary

Chorus

The first picture is of a British sailing ship, which was the type that sailed to New Zealand in the 1850s carrying Scottish and English migrants. Ships landed in the Christchurch and Dundedin Harbours for the new migrants to make their settlements in the South Island. The Scottish preferred Dunedin (Otago) and the English Christchurch (Canterbury). The Scottish moved inland also settling in Central Otago. The population in Central Otago grew rapidly during the gold-rush, which started in the 1860s. The pictures following the ship are of the mountainous areas of Central Otago (Hawea), which look similar to Scotland. The next are of the Rakai Gorge area in Canterbury and then ending with Mt. Cook. After this are a few pictures of Scotland.

If you would like to see some great pictures of Central Otago, I recommend- www.cmrp.org.nz (who are a Central Otago river conservation not-for-profit group).
