  • Gill Scott Heron should have been playing at that World Cup concert in Johannesburg last night not pop dirt like the Black Eyed Peas

  • Used to dance like crazy to this in a Brighton Nightclub around 1976/77.

It still stands up today like ALL his stuff.

Genius and way ahead of his time

  • Malik Jubal -You got to hear him perform this song on Saturday Night Live back in the 70's. Richard Pryor was the guest host and insisted on having Gil on to perform Johannesburg, which Pryor had heard Gil do in a small club in L.A. Richard was blown away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mind you, this was before the coming urest in Africa. Gil was way ahead of his time! I got to work as Gil's MC/Comedian on a show with he and Shirley Murdock. Malik Jubal

  • He knew what was going on the world very smart individual he will be sorely missed RIP

  • immortal technique is the closest descendent of of him in terms of rap music....

  • This pioneering genius was generations ahead of his time. He was the lineal descendant of the protest composers of the 30s, 40s, and 50s, as well as the predecessor of rap and hip-hop. His tragedy was that he was an artist as opposed to a commercial spectacle. His protests were prescient not just in that Mandela was still imprisoned, and the struggle was to come. Fascists demand I.D. or papers in ghettoes, Soweto, or even Arizona. The comments of bigots here are simply sad and pathetic.

  • Great Gil,,Now the Blacks in So.Africa get to be the slime killing Non Africans??ahole

  • Accidentally hit the dislike button, my bad. I miss Gil and was glad to have seen him once. You live on in out thoughts, words and revolutionary deeds my brother!
