An affectionate take on Thomas Dorsey's "Beedle Um Bum" - of which there are many recordings by performers like Bill Broonzy, the Memphis Jug Band, etc. This verion is based very roughly on Big Bill's. Just a bit of recording fun on a Saturday morning with acoustic guitars, bass acoustic guitar and mandolin.

  • Very nice! I believe the lyric you asked about is actually "Ain't too tall and it ain't too wide; just made up in medium size."

If you haven't heard Pink Anderson's "Try Some of That," you might want to give it a listen; it's very similar, but with different (and very funny) lyrics.

  • Excellent! Makes sense - many thanks for supplying the words. :-) Will

  • I have this one on CD performed by Big Bill Broonzy, recorded in Richmond Indiana on March 29 1932.

  • Probably the same as the one I have - I can't make out the words in the 2nd. chorus. Something like "Ain't too salty, ain't too...?" Any idea? Will

  • I used to live in Memphis and I have never heard of Beedle Um Bum??!! Cute tune Will!!

  • I don't think Thomas Dorsey was from Memphis either! But it was certainly covered by the Memphis Jug Band - mind you, we ought to define exactly what we mean by Beedle Um Bum!! ;-) Will
