Thomas Dorsey was a gospel singer originally know as Geogia Tom. He moved to Chicago and became a blues player. You can find his bio on google.

If you haven't heard Pink Anderson's "Try Some of That," you might want to give it a listen; it's very similar, but with different (and very funny) lyrics.

Probably the same as the one I have - I can't make out the words in the 2nd. chorus. Something like "Ain't too salty, ain't too...?" Any idea? Will

I don't think Thomas Dorsey was from Memphis either! But it was certainly covered by the Memphis Jug Band - mind you, we ought to define exactly what we mean by Beedle Um Bum!! ;-) Will
