I cribbed this medley (again by ear) from Jimmy Shand Snr. He recorded it in 1963, no doubt for Parlophone, but I never actually had a copy. I just heard it at a local dance club that my parents used to attend and take me along to (when I was between 6 & 11 years old). There are so many differing accounts of the origins of the Stein Song, I leave you to find one that you prefer. "Take me Back to Dear Old Blighty", however, stems from the first world war ( for further details and lyrics, May I hereby recommend that you go to http://www.firstworldwar.com/audio/takemebacktodearoldblighty.htm) .
I love playing this medley. Here, I have my virtual band (all myself on my Yamaha PSR-7000) providing a backing that is - hopefully - not too unlike that of Sir Jimmy's.
I have never been to Auchtermuchty to see Jimmy Shand's Statue, but my Daughter, who knows how much I admired him, has. She said that I ought to get myself there - it's very moving. One day, when time permits ...

  • @extremo87 Many thanks

  • it's a little surprising to me to learn that Stein Song is known on the other side of the pond. Anyway, this is an enjoyable performance and a nice introduction to we yanks of a fine old song from our wonderful mother country.

  • Many thanks for taking the time to comment.

    Best Regards,
