There's a feeling at the end of this film that gives me a sense of something I know not what that I somehow wish my life was like or will be

"this movie is", and they agreed. One woman exclaimed that it was wonderful. But not everyone is able to do this, and it is what it is. No one loses, and no one gains.

Well, this is one production where "getting by" the violence is necessary to maintain the context of the picture. An anti-violence person might choose to see the ending only on YouTube, but they're missing out on all the tremendous scenes in the movie. Freeman's narration is half the relevance in the picture. When this came out, I told several people at work who are more "clean cut" and not predisposed to foul language, to just get through the language and violence, and "you'll see how good"

you have "lots of time" asitse Red/Morgan pointed out, so it was the perfect setting to allow a friendship to manifest itself over time. It worked brilliantly.

Well, those people don't the violence and language in context. It's the incidence of 4 letter words laden throughout that grabs the attention vs the necessity of such "offenses" that need to be present in the film. Shawshank actually isn't about the prison as much as it's about two guys who became friends. They used the prison setup A) because Stephen King wrote it that way, but also because B) prison lent itself to the time element necessary (20 years) for their friendship to nurture. In prison

I don't see how people could even view the violence and language negatively. I mean, it's a prison. It's not sunshine fairy tale land. Stuff like that is going to occur there.
