Wwe had a wood burning insert put into our fire place last January. Our rancher ran on electric heat and the bills were sky high. The insert is fabulous. It heated virtually the whole of our 2,000 sq ft property and certainly the main areas. Yep you are right, you have to clean it and get up and down to add wood and stuff but we have learned alot about that since last January and we think we have got it sussed. We have even learned how to stack the wood outside properly LOL!

that insert you have should heat most of the house if your fan is on....better than heating a house with propane like me...lol
