Just a quick Demo of a typical real-world approach, in FSX. Pilot's refer to this is the "Penetration Approach." *HAR HAR* It is called this for obvious reasons, you force the glider down from altitude, aiming to land a few hundred feet short, reaching speeds anywhere from 100 KIAS to close to V/Ne. You flair a few hundred feet from the end of the runway, and slip to slow it down while using ground effect to stay aloft to the runway.

Sound by Bviv (Cedar Valley Utah landing).

  • Is that bruno vassil the 4th voice, youtube chanle "bivi"?

  • @K0S0s

If you are speaking of "bviv" then yes! I love the man's videos and just thought some audio would be perfect.

I do hope I credited him in the description.

  • wrong in a penetration landing the base leg is the apex of a hammerhead and yes you come in low and very fast using ground effect to keep you airborne. I've done those in real life and they are a blast.... but your timing has to be right on... pull to high and you will overshoot badly.... pull to low and you are a creator.

  • @MysticKnight38 FSX isn't real life however. It's only so realistic.

  • Interesting that this vid has the sound from BVIV's Cedar Valley landing in a real ASW-20B overdubbed on it...

  • @resiggy13 That's exactly where I got it from, nice observation. I love Bviv's videos.

  • @ysflightman... I love his vids too!@@!! and yes i meant bviv

  • @Airsoftred I kind of realized this afterwards, but this was a pretty impromptu video, and it's hard to pull off a real-world spec penetration approach in FSX, since it models sink and dive-brakes so poorly. But thanks.

  • Plan your circuits a lil bit closer maybe so you dont have to push it on base like that, I realize you were doing a pen approach, but most of the time you would lose too much from the trees, turbulence, possible sink etc to be able to make it at that range and low alt. Other than that great videos and cheers, happy landings, virtual and real

  • Love the vids! i subbed please sub back
