I had them of course and stock in my 1946 and a 1948 caddie's , 150 HP in the cars. Caddy Used them until 1949 when they got the overhead V8 but that was not as smooth and quiet as these where! 346 Cubic inches 150 HP ----3 1 /2 BORE 4 1/2 STROKE

@hoplite46 Yeah but that was 80 years ago... There were engines put into cars in the 70's that were nearly the same size and produced the same amount of power.
-
not a lot of HP for that displacement
-
@dynolabinc 346 ci V8, 150 horsepower.

What kind of torque is produced?

Looks like something Leatherface would have in his 1942 Dodge Powerwagon wrecker.

i stopped at the heartland military museum in nebraska and there was a caddy V8 tank engine on the stand beside a GIANT ford flathead V8 tank engine that i never knew they built

i think the M-24 Chaffee light tank,had 2 of these V8.pretty cool sound
346 cu in, 135BHP. These engines were first released in 1937, and featured hydraulic valve lifters, even though they were sidevalve!
Because they were so smooth and reliable, and because Cadillac had so much productive capacity, they were installed as tank engines, coupled to Hydramatic automatic transmissions. Most times they were fitted in banks of two engines & transmissions - but some tanks even had three of them! Also very thirsty - not that that worried the Military!
