Death
by William Butler Yeats

Nor dread nor hope attend
A dying animal;
A man awaits his end
Dreading and hoping all;
Many times he died,
Many times rose again.
A great man in his pride
Confronting murderous men
Casts derision upon
Supersession of breath;
He knows death to the bone
Man has created death

    Don't worry, I really like the fact that people can share their thoughts even if it is negative. Your opinion is very interesting, and mostly because it is the exact opposite of what I felt reading this poem. In my very small knowledge of poetry that was what I felt and that's why I presented it that way. What I always liked about poetry is that even if there is an official interpretation people tend to see what they like to see. Thanks again and have a nice day.

  • @peterz0306 I was rather rude wasn´t I? sorry.

    I don´t like the reading because it sounds like its about something `scary´ - whereas the poem is a marvellous expression of exactly the very opposite.

    It is about the human capacity to know death and its terrors "to the bone" and yet to completely stand above this terror. Its tone, pulse, sense and meaning is victorious. It has nothing whatsoever to do with graveyard gothic and all that.

    I must say, that I like very much my very own interpretation of the poem, but here everybody is free to share their own opinion so thanks for the comment.

  • Yuck! disgusting reading
