  • those children have some nerve talking to HBO and using this movie as their own soapbox. where were they when little edie died alone and wasn't discovered until 5 days later??

  • Edie finally got her big chance.

  • @nailposh3 you have no clue what you are saying - actually, Pam Beale spent time with little edie up until she died; brought her to her home to live with her, then helped her with her own place in Florida until the end. I know this, as that is my aunt, and great aunt. So before you put your mouth where it doesnt count, learn to research. Pam Beale kept all the letters, all the correspondence, and had a relationship with little Edie up until she died.

  • To me, it's frightening to see a daughter's life be thrown away by her crazy mother. They might have been isolated from family neglect, but they were not functional. They went nutters and I could barely (if at all) watch the part of the filming. It's obvious that both women were nothing but freaks and it was the first reality show, really, moreso than some documentary. Little Edie was just as much of a flake as her mother and it's a pity she never did any work in her father's law firm.

  • i hate the condescending attitude of the niece at the end. I could punch her.

  • @kakadoodoo3000 I believe you on all counts. I speak as a recovered hoarder. The people in your life can't know what is happening because the tendancy is to hide it out of pride for as long as possible. Many people judge clutterers but know nothing about the mindset that causes and perpetuates the problem, and I simply like to let people know some of the issues behind cluttering so that someday the public won't be so insensitve about hoarders and their families.

  • @hollywoodartchick i know/have known clutterers, but they were grateful when someone extended help to them. the edie's also allowed their house to be cleaned/fixed up, and i suppose, were happy about it, when jackie o offered to help. their hoarding was prob. a reaction to having lost everything of value, so they clung to what they had left, even if it was just cats and rubbish. they'd not have reached this state if their relatives had cared enough to help them, and much sooner.

  • @alSation81 it's some consolation to me that at least little edie had her 'day in the sun' at the premiere of 'grey gardens,' and that she was corresponding with fans until she died. it must have meant so much to her. i'm glad she had at least a small part of her dream come true, before she died.

  • @Dragon345 yes, it breaks my heart to think of how she died alone...although i read on wikipedia that for a time, she lived with some relatives. wonder which relatives these were.

  • @YellowMangerCalling i hear ya! i hope the edies pay them a not too pleasant visit. publicity whores.

  • @19tin76 i agree with you "beloved aunt and beloved granny" my foot! why didn't the relatives help them THEN??? now they talk about them as if they're so wonderful, while they were probably ashamed of them while they lived. i have/have had relatives very similar to these two, but we made/make sure they are/were looked after.these people are high society.once relatives become poor, they fall out of favor, and that's it.
