As a teenager, SpecialJoy Alexander began experiencing intense back pain. As she started to lose the ability to walk, she was rushed to our hospital where physicians found that a tumor was destroying her vertebrae and compressing her spine, causing paralysis.
Treated by the Divisions of Orthopaedic Surgery and Neurosurgery at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, she stayed positive, persevered, and even thrived. Now, she is an inspiration to everyone she meets.
