Found a box of crappy old tapes... Decided to cut one up and make a loop out of it. There's a few videos and guides on how to do this... Best idea is to just go for it though - if it works, it works.

  • Awesome detuned sample. Ive been trying to do this all day but for some reason I can't get this to work. Don't know what I'm doing wrong...

  • @JAMESveeder I imagine the most likely problem is the tension of the tape. If it's not tight enough round the mechanisms it won't spin. It took me quite a few attempts to get it right. If the tape appears to be moving fine then check the magnetic side is facing outwards. Good luck!

  • I think I get what you mean... Yeah, on both sides A and B of a tape, the magnetic tape itself is still the same way up - just facing a different way, or traveling in a different direction. The bottom of the tape, I believe, does not have this magnetic coating and therefore cannot be recorded to.

  • cool a mobius strip made from a tape, ha!!

  • I tried this.. first time the tapes would slip so I got some rubber band and put them around the wheels. Problem is my tape player refused to record to it!

  • Hey cool idea. Just a question, have you ever considered doing this with a video cassette? The only problem being that when a tape is inserted in a VCR, the VCR extracts a section of the tape from the little flap on the side of the tape. Tricky business, eh?

  • attempting this tomorrow. when i get a philips head screw driver, and double sided tape.

  • Now why can't you record to both sides of the tape? Is this because it's not the two different sides get recorded on, but just one side of the tape like in a normal tape? Like side A and B, those aren't top and bottom, but one side of the tape on the top? It's hard to explain without a diagram, lol.
