They are comparable to take care of each has it's specific needs follow them carefully. The Russian will grow to a manageable size. The Sulcata will get HUGE. The sulcata would only be good for a large area. Please consider adopting one from a rescue. There are many that need good homes. And don't support the heartless breeders only trying to make a buck. Not caring about the animals' lives they are selling.

Hold the presses. Late breaking news. Until yesterday I believed George to be a girl. I just discovered otherwise. He stuck his dick out at me. Well, I guess the name was right after all.

It is difficult to determine their age with much accuracy. She was a stray that was found eating my neighbor's geraniums. In this pic I think she was about 5 years old. These things sure do grow fast. In the year and a half she has been living here, she has almost doubled in weight. She was about 8 pounds when she arrived and is just over 14 pounds now. That time span did include 2 long warm Southern California summers. And her shell growth is looking good. Less pyramiding now.

Sulcata-station. Org is one of the best places for care information.

They are a relatively fragile pet. Especially when they are small and young. There are many care considerations that are critical to your torts health and development. Diet, water, temperature, light, nutritional supplements, environment, sanitation, and the list goes on.

And did I mention cleaning up after your tort? Since she eats mainly roughage, that is fiber, she poops the size of a medium dog. Not smelly because of no animal protein in the diet. But a lot of it. It's kind of light and dry also. Not messy to clean up. They keep almost all the moisture out of it before pooping out what is left. She takes a fair amount of care, but is a cool pet to watch. Not very affectionate, but will follow you around the yard looking for handouts.
