This drive in theater (remains) was one of the highlights of yet another OUTDOOR MOOVIES adventure. As you might know, we always get permission to tape. When we pulled into this site, there was an automobile parked next to a small utility camper. We drove past it and parked in back. Notice the very cool and unique 2nd projection booth, obviously simply a semi truck fusalage, were it an airplane. We did some taping and walked around the grounds, then, we decided to try to get an interview. We're dealing with alot of unknowns, but we can proudly say we always have permission from the owner or head cheese. Anyways, when we got to the camper, the car was gone, and, the one way in and out path was now blocked by a gate...odd, since I had knocked on the door, before the car left, to no avail. So then we get to the gate and it is chained shut. Looks like we are stuck here for a while. VERY scary feeling...a fedw deep breaths...then Phil cell phones the owner, who was a short distance away. He wasn.t happy his worker had done that, and laujghed and told us (a trade secret) that the gate wasn't really locked,,,just made to look that way. He told us how to take the chain off and told us to keep the gate wide open. There is a possibility that this drive in theater was called the MARION-AIR. Any confirmation on that? By the way, I enjoy old abandoned drive in theaters just as much as the open ones, just in a different way.I consider these clips to be an ongoing documentation of the great American institution...the DRIVE IN THEATER! • After 141 views, the mystery continues!

  • That's funny there's a drilling and pipe company there now. You know there was lots of drilling and pipe laying going on when it was a drive-in!

  • @M78drivein Exactly. Wish I would've thought that one up before air time. I am proud of all the documentation I've done, but I'll admit I could've spent more time in post production. OUTDOOR MOOVIES is what it is....lame scripts and all. Thanks again for your comment!

  • This was known as the Marion Drive-In from 1947 to 1951. It became the North Drive-In in 1952. I don't know about it being called Marion-Air. There was a Marion-Air Drive-In in Marion Indiana.
