*UPDATE*
If you have a Realtek sound card, this link may enable your stereo mix. http://download.cnet.com/Realtek-High-Definition-Audio-Codec-Windows-Vista-Wi...

Use at your own risk and make sure you set a system restore point before you install it though in case it doesn't work with your sound card.

Some people were having trouble with not being able to select "What U Hear" on the Audacity drop down menu. This is one way I found around it. Sorry if I went a little fast. I will put step by step details in the description.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net

1. Right click on "Volume" in your task bar.
2. Click on "Recording Devices".
3. Right click in the box that appears and select "Show Disabled Devices".
4. Right click on "Stereo Mix" and select "Enable". Press "Ok".
5. Open Audacity.
6. Go to "Edit" - "Preferences".
7. Under the Recording options there should be a drop down box titled Device. Select "Stereo Mix" and press "Ok".

Now Audacity will record any sound your computer sends through its speakers without picking up outside noise from a microphone. Thanks for watching =D

  • Hmmmm.... SO! What happens when Stero Mix isn't there? :@

  • @moonyjacob It most likely means your sound card doesn't have that functionality.

  • It used to work for me but it jsut stopped working :(

  • @KeroseneKreations Any recent software updates for your sound card?

  • alright so this worked perfectly but sometimes when i record stuff off the internet it turns out fast why is that?

  • @algebraparish The only thing I could think of would be that you have some sort of effect enabled on your recording software. Maybe try recording with a different program and see if it changes.
