NZ websites face a unique problem with web page latency, being physically far from browsers in the US or Europe. Distance can add almost a minute to the loading of a single web page, in some instances, for a user located on the opposite side of the World - something you won't know is happening when viewing your own site from a local computer. Ed Robinson's company is turning that disadvantage, known by many Kiwis as the "tyranny of distance", into the focus of this unique piece of server software that reduces latency on websites automatically. This is an important advance for companies doing substantial amounts of business online with geographically scattered end users, as most online applications and businesses do. Ed explains what latency is, how better page design and his company's software works to reduce latency, and why that's important from a user and business perspective. Ed Robinson is CEO of Aptimize, a software development company based in New Zealand: http://www.aptimize.com
