The reason for theory is to make music. Frank & Bucky's observation is dead on target . Far more people have arrived at superlative musicianship through their ears (by playing) than through their eyes (by reading). A player absorbs theory into the musical subconscious for easy reuse later to improvise. Phrases beat pages.
