"nigger" comes from "negro" which means "black" in any Romance language. All it is really saying is "blacky". It deserves it's negative conotation after being used in a negative and murderously derogatory way for centuries. If people want it gone, they need to quit using it all together.

Well, the N word is thought of a such a harmful word because of the context that it was used in. Yes, the word simply means "black", but the word has a horrifying history behind it.
