A surprise aurora appeared over the night skies in the Drake - Owensville area. These are a few stills put into animation to show a little bit of movement of the lights. It repeats a few times as I had to change angles on the camera.

  • What is this?? Since when can you see aurora in the states?? How did you happen to know to look up?? did they forecast this event?? You guys are so lucky!

  • @skylilly1 Yes we were lucky! Living in Missouri (about the center of the USA), we don't get very many auroras. This one only lasted about 30 minutes, so we were fortunate to find and photograph it when we did. Of course, the further north you are (like Michigan) the more chances you get!

  • @gabek30024 ah okay tyvm :)

  • @rapinyouracc Actually it usually occurs at the polar regions, and in many different colors...

  • does this only come in america?

  • @skylilly1

If you live in Michigan you can see them just pretty much every year. =p You can't really forecast these things, and you just really have to be lucky and look up at the right time.

  • The end is here

  • Nice, I missed this due to the cloud cover up here in Minnesota.
