i had an addiction to cursing. and really i just did to help my confidence. all it did was turn people that i really wanted, away. i didnt see a big deal about it since i wasnt intending to offend anyone.
One thing that really helped me was making intense sincere duaa. I never missed out on a chance to make duaa in class, in bed, free time, in sujood whenever. I really wanted to stop cursing cuz it made me feel weak. I soon replaced it with dhikr and i felt much more empowered alhamdulilah.

YO I'M SO ANGRY!

I used to cuss like a sailor, and when I converted I knew I must change this. When I felt like saying a cuss word, I said "Crumblemuffins!" So silly that it made me laugh, get less upset at what made me want to curse, and brought my ego down a notch. Alhamdulillah!

@mohammadi19 Br. Mohamed Hassan this video keeps referring to the link from Sheih Kamal El Mekki's video on profanity: this I believe will help with your question please click its very good

@amongstthefew and @xxxlilk I too have reframed from using profanity, at first tried to replace the words but then found myself using dhikr a lot more useful and calming. Alhamdulilaah, I use "La Hawla Wala Quwata illa Billah" (There's no might nor power except with Allah) at times of calamity or "Istghfur'Allaah".
Brother I would like to commend ATF for providing such great videos, we need more of this on Youtube, May Allah (SWT) reward you

i have a question!!! what if your younger sister is in middle school and almost every kid around her cusses about every 5 minutes!! and sometimes her older brothers encourage her saying its cool!!
-
Asalamu Alaykum! JazakAllahu Khair for the reminder!
I actually used to live with someone during university who would constantly use bad words. Alhamdullilah because I am no longer around them i do not hear those words any longer, but i will admit after so much exposure I was periodically desensitized :(
Sometime people are smart and can judge from your character and the way you conduct yourself whether using certain words around you will offend you or not, if not telling them will suffice !

As-salamu Alaikum akhi Mohamed Hassan
Akhi I was wondering the thing u have around u'r hand, is it allowed for men? I'm not saying just to annoy u wallahi, but becuz I had it ones, and someone told me not to, and I forgot to ask what the avidence where for that. Could u please ask sh. kamal? this is only a nasiha my dear brother, I love u'r videos, may Allah grant u Jannah(both of u).
one of these days could u talk about, how to give nasiha, and what kinda akhlaq that is needed in this area.

@loaded99percent - alhamdulillah, great to hear that my dear bro/sis, may Allah continue to give u, me, n the rest of the ummah the strength to persist in gd deeds n abstain from bad ones. asalamualaikum! :)
Mashallah great reminder. Allhumduillah one way i gave up profanity was as mentioned being around those who don't use profanity. Because than it becomes very awkward when one does use it and even sometimes out of context, One will even notice it more when they use it in front of someone pious etc. The other way was use to substitutions. Though this shouldn't be our end goal its a nice first step. For example for the f word ( i feel uncomfortable even saying that..) one could use fish etc etc.

@xxxlilk Substitution eh? Good suggestion. I would like to see someone start saying outdated word like 'fiddlesticks.' I know a lot of people who use dhikr of Allah when they are startled, frustrated or other times profanity normally slips out. It gets your tongue used to saying dhikr.

That's awesome! Orwell's 1984 was brilliant and really made me curious about the effect of language on thought and vice versa. Gotta checkout the essay.
As for countering people's F-words, it's easy when it's a friend, or a Muslim or someone who you know swear. But having complete strangers in a meeting (happened recently) swear is harder to deal with especially when they're supposed to be professionals.

@hgezim you are right bro, and you need to make sure you are the right person givign the advice. The right advice from the wrong person, at the wrong time can push somebody away.

The s and the f words are not in my vocabulary because I mostly speak Spanish but the c word is a bad word most of the college students say when saluting friends, to insult someone, feeling anger, or when something is amazing. Thanks to Allah I take it away of my vocabulary. I substituted it with Kalimah. Kalimah refers to Shahadah. I felt shame every time I said the c word because the angels wrote it down and felt happiness when saying Kalimah because it reminds who is Allah in my life.
