Lalitgri lies in Cuttack district of Odisha (formerly Orissa) in eastern India. It is one of a set of three Buddhist heritage sites in the region, the others being Ratnagiri and Udaygiri. According to historians, a relic casket was found here containing what is believed to be a bone of Buddha himself. Lalitgiri is believed to have been a Buddhist university of the same stature as Nalanda and Taxila and may have been called Pushpagiri.
