@MitchellTechnologies As a general rule, the forces arising from any dynamic imbalance increase as the square of the engine speed. That is, if the speed doubles, vibration will increase by a factor of four. So for all of you who bought Cummins diesels, good choice. To the rest of you with power strokes, your engines are not shit you trucks will get job done. I just prefer Cummins I6 because I know without a doubt that I'm backed by a very efficient engine design, to every man his own, Cheers.

@MitchellTechnologies .... crankshaft has six crank throws arranged in three planes offset at 120°. The result is that differences in piston speed at any given point in rotation are effectively canceled. A inline four cylinder or V-type engine without a balance shaft will experience secondary dynamic imbalance, resulting in engine vibration.

@MitchellTechnologies .... Continued - with ensuring long engine life. An I6 engine also aquires this balance without a balance shaft saving weight, rotating mass, and money. It achieves this because the front and rear trio of cylinders are mirror images, and the pistons move in pairs piston #1 balances #6, #2 balances #5, and #3 balances #4, largely eliminating the rocking motion that would otherwise result. Secondary imbalance is avoided because an inline six cylinder.....

@boose0 I6 engines have always been superior, which is why they are always used in commercial applications. The new Dodge high output I6 Cummins diesel puts out a nice and even 800 lb - ft of torque with 2 fewer cylinders than V8 Diesels. The I6 is the simplest engine layout that possesses both primary and secondary mechanical engine balance, much better than V8 model. Now since diesels combustion is rather rough having fewest vibrations and good balance to start..... Cntinued

Dodge the father, Ram the daughter, Stroken is alright, but Cummin is hotter. ;)
