Carol Massar discusses the poor performance of Wall Street's biggest banks in
forecasting the direction of financial stocks.
METHODOLOGY: For this ranking, we looked at calls made by 2900 analysts at 212 firms on the world's biggest and most widely covered financial stocks: stocks with a minimum market capitalization of $15 billion, assets of at least $10
billion and with 20 or more analysts covering them. Our time period was January
1, 2009 to August 31, 2011. To qualify for the ranking, analysts must have
covered the stock for at least one year and have made at least one call in both
2010 and 2011. This ranking examines the ratio of correct calls to total calls
for the 42 firms that covered at least 10 of these stocks.
