I like how this guy explains things.Made the mistake of disconnecting the band switch shaft and now can't get the thing to work on some bands, cause the radio shows a swr and won't put out power, even tho it's flat or at least tuned flat. Help! I did mark the original spot on the shaft. I do use the ARB-704 to my ft-920. Use to work like a champ. It is a 13 year old amp and I just replaced the tubes for the first time with Chinese ones. Any advice through a email appreciated. de n5vwn 73's
well, I like to have amplifier like this one, but unfortunately my ANT only handle up to 150 watts, and my ANT tuner 200 watts. may be I should bought higher power capable ANT and TUNER for just more money
They could have had someone a little more familiar with tuning the amp then someone who is reading the manual like any end user would. It seems like he never ran one of these amps before if he has to refer to the manual every 20 seconds, must be a MFJ employee.
When you can wade through his muffled speech (where the heck is the mic placed?), he is leaving out a very important part of the loop: the ARB-704, a product they manufacture. Does one have this in the loop when tuning? It's never mentioned. And if you've a Yaesu FT-2000 you BETTER have that ARB-704 connected.
Also, no mention is made of working with any Tuner.
It sounds like a lot because the guy's explaining everything to the minute detail. In practise, tuning up is just a few seconds of twiddling the plate and load controls. You get used to it, it's done in the blink of an eye, and tube watts really do sound nicer than solid state ones, that seems to hold true for RF as well as AF. I use a 30 year old Heath amp and wouldn't swap it for a SS one. The price of replacement transistors, watt for watt, is way above the price of tubes too.
man this cat is all over it huh lol go mfj and them techs

ITS NICE TO SEE MFJ USING BIRD METERS, BUT I FIGURED THEY WOULD BE USING A MFJ METER.......

A nice addition to using the Ameritron Amp is the ARB704 interface which protects the transceivers amp keying circuits.

Man I did not know it was this much work to tune one of these Tube amps up.
Great video, but now it has me thinking about a transistorized amp, yep a lot of cash but might be worth it.
