Displaying and explaining how to clean the inner workings of the Kodak Brownie Hawkeye. Going over the inner lens assembly and tips about using your very own Brownie! Cleaning this inner section is key, but remember it does not have to be perfect either. Your camera is special and unique, but hopefully this video will help clean it up a little bit.

You will need the following:

Philips screwdriver, possibly one for eye glasses repair
Lint free monitor wipe, and a cotton shirt
91% alcohol
Hydrogen peroxide and or window ammonia cleaner
Cotton balls or cotton swaps
About 1-2 hours
Patience

REMEMBER TO NOTE HOW IT WAS BEFORE YOU TOOK IT APART! Draw pics and what not to ensure it goes back to the original form. If not, its possible I will see your camera on ebay for parts.

AWESOME! Will look forward to hearing if the tips helped.

    Cheers!

  • I've just bought & cleaned a few of these Brownie Hawkeyes myself. The easiest thing to remove and clean, is the lens itself. The two screws on the inside of the camera I've had no problems with at all. BTW, the washer that's under the lens is supposed to be bent like that. When cleaning the front elements, I prefer not to remove the top 2 (long) screws and just remove the front 2 & bend the face plate up to get access to the viewfinder lens & protective glass cover, which I remove and clean.

I think I will do it your way next time. The screws at the top sucked to get out.

  • Your washer is normal. It's a press fit washer.

Thats good to know. I thought mine was just jacked up. Thanks for the comments guys.

  • I think you'd bust the metal faceplate bending it up more than once or twice in its life -- but I had better luck getting the screws out than you though -- I think yours was probably reassembled too tightly at some point in its life. It was a prick to hold all three lens elements in place while you get it back on though... Thanks a lot for the vid.

  • some ammonia and warm water is best for getting exterior clean, esp nicotine.... just cleaned my Hawkeye with flash

  • your washer is normal. Mine is the same. No need to get a new one, because there must be a reason for the waviness in it?
