Compared to a lot of hoarders I've watched on A&E, this ain't nothin. There was one episode of a woman who had a refrigerator of rotten food from like 30 years ago and everything in it had turned black. SMH And, there's many more worse than that.

I read a recent article on the Internet that said those with Hoarding tendancies have problems that can be seen medically in the frontal lobe of their brains. This would explain why their thinking is so off centre.
I think that some may have this problem, but after watching many programmes on this I think some people want to control of others, I suppose that is also psychological. I always look into the eyes of these people it shows an awful lot.

@eastwood2414 ---That's not exactly true about swimming....I'm always afraid I'm gonna drown in deep water. I took and passed swimming classes. But years later I still do not feel comfortable in deep water. And someone pushed me in water as a kid. I wish I could enjoy swimming cuz it's the best exercise...

Sometimes there is a social responsibility to protect people who are not mentally capable of making responsible decisions. This is a mental illness and yes, the mentally ill have rights, but at the same time, when they are endangering themselves and others; there should be laws that allow others to step in and do whats needed.

the things you own end up owning you

@eastwood2414 you can't get rid of the problem whether they agree or not, since they own all that garbage, no one else has any right to throw it away other than the authorities. and since there's no law against any of this all you can say it that it's a fire hazard.

listen to Paul Waters on my page, he was on A & E Obsessed, his song Monstor is on my page, its about OCD and Anxiety

one thing, he has/had fine antiques not just flies and cat shit and pieces of plastic like most of these thrashies had
he simply needs to organize and shed a bit
This is NOT filth and laziness,JennelleBelle. This sweet, soft, gentle man (Russ) lost all the family and friends he had,and he became very attached to things. Hoarding is a very common form of OCD. This is something inside the brain. A person living in this situation is going through mental and emotional torture. We should not judge others. Unless you have OCD yourself, then you just don't know what it is like. I cried so much for this beautiful man and his story . Russ deserves respect too.

@johnnycagetheGOD ...The blunt truth helps out more than anything. I'm sick of all the tip toeing around this disorder. Someone whos scared to swim and suddenly gets thrown in a pool or ocean...trust me...they will convert. Not to sound harsh, but I think it falls into the families hands. Tell these people the truth, if it fails...next step get rid of the problem whether they agree or not. I'd rather have them mad at me than planning their funeral.
