The whip can be used in conjunction with a dagger, as in "Latigo y daga"....the whip is shorter....more like 4 1/2 feet in comparison to 6, 8, 10 or 12 feet. Anthony DeLongis has a great approach to using the whip as a fighting tool, in that he says you can double it up and use it like a blackjack or sjambok, get in to close the gap then bind and choke. Using just the cracking end of the whip is just one way to use it.

Yeah..thanks Id like to see someone charge a whip user who struck him in his patella (kneecap) or groin..his hands even. From what Ive seen that level of accuracy isnt common among whip practioners, but if the guy could target like that how would you really move in on him with knees, or groin splayed open.

what about a whip with say studs in it. like the custom whips i make. i have three with small blades aligned to act like plate mail or a snake tail. flowing with the whip

That guiness record was set by Adam right? All he was doing was volleys in two hands... I can do that easily enough.

Devel does make a point. If you had maybe a 4 foot bullwhip or 3 foot stockwhip with razors in there, you'd be a force to be reckoned with. They'd go VERY fast and if used right, can make you bleed out in minutes.

A broadsword may win on the fact if the whip user isn't as experienced as the sword user and that the whip user doesn't make first contact.

I respect your opinion Devel, but as an expert whip handler, I can tell you that you are incorrect. What you are seeing here is an amateur whip handler. Put the whip into the hands of an expert and they can crack the whip up to 200+ in a minute. That has been document for the Guinness Book World records and I have seen it for myself. The whip has capabilities to reaching far out and the handle itself is very heavy and can be used for attack. Check out Black Belt Magazine's Dec & Jan edition

I fully understand how powerful a bullwhip is, and it will cut when it strikes open flesh, but the depth of that cut is shallow. And will not cleave flesh from the bone. It simply does not have the weight behind it to do mortal damage. I am sure you could do quite the number on me if I was unarmed. But if I had my broadsword I believe you would find yourself receiving a fatal blow every time. With me surviving the confrontation. Like I said before, you would only have time for one strike.

Whips are poor man defensive weapons. If your opponent fears the whip you may have a chance.... but if he does not. then unless you hit the jugular with a razor blade whip, you are going to get fucked up. because at close range, all you have is your fists.
