yes the star certainly looks to have a connection to Alexander the Great....
i read....
the archaeologist Manolis Andronikos who unearthed the star proposed that the larnax on which it appears belonged to King Philip II of Macedon...the father of Alexander the Great......and suprise to me......another version of the Vergina Sun......with 12 rays......was found on the larnax of Olympias.....the mother of Alexander the Great.....very interesting....thank you......

Yes, ancient Greeks used often as their symbols the multi ray stars, the 4th, 8th, 12th and 16th ray star was also used by the old Athenian royal house, the Mentodid clan!

Whether it is a religious or a political symbol, the stylised star or sun with sixteen rays of Vergina is a macedonian-greek symbol, even if macedonian-slavs tried to assimilate it. This and also other symbols...

True and long before the Greeks of Macedonia used it, it was used by other Greeks too. Laconian vases of 600 B.C. have that same symbol.
