Homosexuality is illegal in Guyana and carries a sentence of life in prison. Many guyaneses gays openly display their lifestyle with little apprehension, or fear of persecution. One organization: SASOD organizes some events to promote anti-homophobic work. The gay traveler is wise to be very cautious and conservative in his/her behavior. Hopefully UNASUR take into account a treaty to protect the rights and freedoms of the sexual minority in South America.
