Funny thing about the Asians. (Especially the Japanese.) They love racing, but after the horses are used up, they eat them.

He was extremely fast after bludging for most of the race. This was about 1200 or 1300m? And 49mph? I do not see a speedometer. A sub 22 last quarter (maybe even sub 21) - which happens more than you'd think, with horses running into a show or place, but these other horses... no way he should have won, that far back. Can't judge a horse on a donkey derby, sorry!

@123Secretariat I am a huge Secretariat fan, and I know most of his records ( every quarter faster than previous in Derby) and so forth, but the 49 MPH, I think I would like to see a link to that one. I looked up the fast horse (quarter horse) and the fastest MPH by one is 43 mph.
The fastest horse ever recorded was Big Racked, who reached 43.26 MPH in a quarter mile race in Mexico City, Mexico.

@123Secretariat : Cheeky hardly but anyway you can't compare Phar Lap to Secetariat and say Secetariat was the greatest due to the fact is that all horse are different its like apples and oranges same thing is happining with Black Caviar - Makybe Diva one is a top class sprinter the other was a top class stayer both great horses but i don't think one was better then the other in my thoughts Phar Lap and Secetariat are two of the greatest out of many , its just not fair .,

@adele375 Yes, I do know who the other horses are :) Yews and that was in the 1930's Secretarfiat was in tyhe 1970s and 1980's and he easily beat those records when Red was born. If his owners raced Red more he would have won ALOT more races then he did. I do know who Ruffian, Shergar, Par Lap, Barbaro, Tulloch, Lost In The Fog ect is :) So enough with that cheeky comment
